Outdoor Adventures

How about some leaf peeping?! Fall foliage is what people flock to the Adirondack Park for in this season of change. Whether you’re traveling to upstate New York, or you live nearby, there’s something very special about immersing yourself in nature in the fall. It awakens all the senses while simultaneously relaxing and renewing the spirit.

View from the Heights

If you have never taken a ride on the McCauley Mountain chair lift, fall is the perfect time to go! It’s a unique way to take in the views and breathe in the fall air. You can also enjoy the views by hiking one of the mountains near Old Forge such as: Bald Mountain, Black Bear, or Rocky Mountain.

View from the Trails

If you’re into mountain biking, check out the Town of Webb trail system with approximately 100 miles of trails between Old Forge and Eagle Bay..

View from the Lakes

Kayaking or canoeing are fantastic ways to take in the beautiful colors blossoming in the area in fall. Check out 4th Lake and Sis & Bubb Lakes, they’re a great start.

View from the Rails

Hop aboard a train at the Adirondack Scenic Railroad in Thendara. You can choose from a 1 ½ hour roundtrip adventure to Beaver River, where you travel thru forests and over rivers and streams or a three-hour roundtrip train ride to Big Moose. You can purchase a boxed lunch or visit their café car. Also highly popular (book up quickly as their season ends before November!)  are the Adirondack Scenic Rail Bike Adventures. If you enjoy exercise with your friends or family, then get your blood pumping as you pedal thru the ADK forest. Each railbike seats four people and there are now two trips offered. This is a fall adventure that you will not want to miss!

View from the Links

One of the most beautiful courses in the area (especially in the fall!) is the Thendara Golf Club, which offers golfing on an 18-hole par 72 course cut through the natural beauty of the Adirondack mountains. This course is a preference, no matter your level of play. Call with questions (315) 369-3136 or to book a tee time, click for online reservations.
