Aug 24 2020

Old Forge is home to so many great experiences! It may be hard to choose which activities to do during your weekend getaway. Here’s a list of must do’s in Old Forge that will have you coming back weekend after weekend for more adventures!

1. McCauley Mountain Scenic Chairlift

If you’re into green mountains and serene lakes as far as the eye can see, then this activity is perfect for you! You’ll be able to see Grey Lake and the little town of Old Forge tucked between the mountains, and on a clear day you can see Whiteface Mountain and Mount Marcy on the horizon.

To take in the most scenery, we suggest that you pack your lunch or order take out to bring along with you for a picturesque picnic! (Remember to take back everything you bring with you!)

2. Fulton Chain Craft Brewery

Sample some local beer here at Fulton Chain Craft Brewery! Founded in 2014, this brewery uses locally sourced ingredients to create 10 different on tap beers, giving their customers a true Adirondack beer experience. The creative crafts, however, don’t stop there!

Be sure to them ask about their Black Button Distilled Spirits, Lock 1 Distilling, 1911 Hard Cider, Heron Hill Wines, & Rachel’s Raquette Lake Elixir!

3. Beach Day

Summer is coming to a close and fall is quickly approaching, so make the most of it while you can with one last day on the beach! Whether you’re building sandcastles, fishing, or sunbathing, a beach day is a great way to relax.

You’re in luck because the Adirondacks are home to a plethora of lakes and beaches. So, check out Old Forge Public Beach, Suckerbrook Bay, NYS DEC Nick’s Lake, or Arrowhead Park Beach and see which beach is perfect for your beach day!

4. Adirondack River Outfitters

If you’re looking for some excitement in your weekend adventure, then look no further than Adirondack River Outfitters for your white-water rafting adventure! A.R.O. pioneered white water rafting in upstate New York providing a range of challenges from class II – IV rapids on Hudson, Moose, and Black Rivers.

The adventure gets even more exciting with the possibility that you’ll have to hop out of the boat into the “swimming rapids” for a fast-moving, but safe experience! Surrounded by waterfalls that flow from cliffs, clinging trees, and hanging vines, this adventure proves to be exhilarating and beautiful!

5. The Wild Center

Take your chance to experience the Adirondacks from new heights as you take a wild walk amongst the treetops! This high lined trail is designed to transform the way you see the forest around you by providing you a new perspective.

Part of this walk includes a walk through the Snag, a white pine so grand that four stories of stairwells are able to fit inside. The exploring doesn’t stop there! Back on the ground, you can take a self-guided trail that goes to the Oxbow on Raquette River and experience up close the wildlife that the Adirondacks has to offer!

These are just a few of the many experiences that can be found in Old Forge. There is something for everyone whether you’re looking for excitement or relaxation, outdoor adventures, or inside experiences, Old Forge has it all! Make the most of your weekend getaway doing what makes you happy and just remember, if not everything fits into a one-weekend schedule, there is always next time!
