A.R.O. was the first New York outfitter on the Moose River and a founding members of the Hudson River Professional Outfitters Association.

A.R.O. has experienced and personable guides and an impeccable safety record. Our guides and staff have a passion for outdoor adventure and for sharing that passion with our guests. A.R.O. considers rafting a team sport and they strive to make you key players on the team. Call today to plan your trip with our whitewater professionals. Combine with a vacation in Old Forge, Lake Placid, Lake George, or the 1000 Islands

Big Moose Lake

Big Moose Lake offers several interesting bays, marsh areas and trails.

Blue Mountain Lake

Blue Mountain Lake is surrounded by mountains and filled with 10 islands that are part of the forest preserve.

Browns Tract Inlet

Browns Tract Inlet is a 6 mile round trip that is well known for being a part of the 90-mile Adirondack Canoe Classic. Motor boats are not a feasible option for this route due to the many dams along the way. The surface of the river is as smooth as glass and is covered with water lilies in many areas. At just under 3 miles, you will encounter a boardwalk – the only development on Browns Tract Inlet.

Cascade Lake & Falls

Cascade Lake offers both on and off water adventure – enjoy canoeing, kayaking and fishing on the lake or enjoy hiking on its surrounding 5.5 mile loop. While hiking, you will come across a narrow waterfall on the inlet stream. Reach the trailhead on the right by traveling about 1 mile on Big Moose Road in the town of Eagle Bay.

Forked Lake

Forked Lake is a 7 mile route bordered by state land. There is a downstream route that connects to Long Lake that consists of both flatwater and fast water.

Fulton Chain of Lakes

The Fulton Chain of Lakes is a 16 mile stretch starting at First Lake in Old Forge. The lake stretches out to 8th lake which leads to a one-mile carry connecting to Raquette Lake. This is a busy boating route with motors permitted.

Middle Branch of the Moose

The Middle Branch of the Moose is a 12 mile long round trip where paddlers can easily cruise downriver. Instead of returning against the current, many paddlers take advantage of a shuttle service offered by Tickner’s Canoe and The Adirondack Scenic Railroad called River and Rail. Paddlers can also opt to go down the flatwater route to lock and dam which is located off of Green Bridge Road.

Moose River

There are 3 sections of the Moose River: Lower Moose River, Middle Branch Moose River and North Branch Moose River. Lower Moose River consists of 17 miles of demanding rapids – expert whitewater skills are a must for this route. Middle Branch Moose River is a relaxed route down a woodland area that picks up speed as you make your way down. Lastly, the North Branch Moose River is a slow-moving 11 mile stretch where you can enjoy an abundance of birds and wildlife.

Nelson Lake

Nelson Lake is a quick 3.5 mile long secluded journey that begins with a carry. The carry leads you up the Middle Branch and into Nelson Lake. Along the way, you may need to use your paddle to brush the weeds out of the way, once you’re past this, you will find yourself on the scenic Nelson Lake. If you paddle to the far end of the lake, there is a slab of bedrock that slips into the water. Paddlers are able to jump out at this point to stretch their legs and take in the beautiful surroundings.
