With winter ending, a new season of outdoor activities will be springing up, such as mountain biking in the Adirondacks. Here are some of our favorite places to bike in the area:

McCauley Mountain in Old Forge:

McCauley Mountain, New York’s “best family mountain” for skiing, is also a haven for mountain bike enthusiasts, with 15 miles of professionally built trails. The total descent is 2,077 ft with a vertical drop over 600 ft. There are 20 different trails for every skill level, from wider trails for easier riding, to narrow and rocky trails for intermediate and advanced riders. https://mccauleyny.com/mountain_biking.html

TOBIE Trail:

The TOBIE Trail is a 16-mile recreational pathway connecting Thendara, Old Forge, Big Moose, Inlet and Eagle Bay. The pathway utilizes both paved and off-road sections, including an abandoned spur line from the Remsen-Lake Placid Rail Corridor running from the Adirondack Scenic Railroad Station in Thendara to the lakefront in Old Forge. The trail is approximately 2.5 to 3 miles of doubletrack which loops around Moss Lake.
There is an intersection on the SE part of Moss Lake (left of sign-in) that takes you to Bubb and Sis Lakes, which is a slightly more technical singletrack with many rocks and roots to challenge you. https://www.singletracks.com/bike-trails/moss-lake-to-bubb-sis-lakes/

Fern Park:

Fern Park, located in Inlet, is a free recreation park located on Loomis Road, just off of South Shore Road. The park boasts a network of more than 20 miles of looping single track trails with lots of elevation changes. The trails range from easy to difficult. https://www.adirondackexperience.com/hiking/fern-park-recreation-area

There are a few single-track trails that shoot off the main trail system. There is easy access directly from Old Forge, Eagle Bay, Rondaxe and Big Moose. https://www.trailforks.com/region/town-of-webb-recreational-trails-24396/?activitytype=1

Black Fly Challenge:

If you’re looking for an adventurous bike race, then mark your calendar for the second Saturday in June for this legendary Adirondack race, whether you’re an amateur cyclist or seasoned mountain biker. The Black Fly Challenge is a 40-mile race from Inlet to Indian Lake with varying rugged terrain, which includes sand, dirt, and gravel.
